Frequently
Asked Questions...
Q. What does a day/night
camera do?
A. Day/Night cameras incorporate a technology to switch from color
to black & white which allows for better resolution of the picture since color is not
very evident at night in very low light situations.
Q. I have a camera that shows
nothing but glare and white spots because of bright light entering the window on sunny,
and even some cloudy bright days. Is there a way to fix this?
A. Yes. Standard cameras cannot handle the huge difference in
light between relatively dark and relatively light areas. Glare and silhouettes are the
result when a standard camera is installed in places where lots of outside light comes in
a window or door. The best way to obtain useable video in these environments is to install
a super-dynamic, or wide-dynamic range camera. Through digital signal processing, these
cameras are able to enhance video from all sections of the scene, even with harsh
contrasts to provide excellent useable video.
Q. The same subject keeps
popping up as I read about new security systems: Biometrics. Does this new technology
actually work, and how do I know if it's viable for my company?
A. Yes, Biometrics actually work, and prices have come way down in
the last year. Traditional access control systems have allowed entry into controlled doors
based on something you know, like a password, or something you have, like a card.
Biometric access control allows entry into controlled doors based on something you are.
They read your iris, the geometry of your hand, your fingerprint, or the image of your
face. SEi can help you with a survey of your facility and your company to see if biometric
access control is right for you, and if so, which technology. |

Q.
Is Digital Video Recording really better than analog time lapse tape systems?
A. Absolutely. Digital systems are far superior to the older Time
Lapse Tape Recorders in many ways. First of all, images are recorded to hard drive media
in a digital format and therefore they never degrade like images on tape. In addition, it
is much easier ( and quicker) to search for events that are recorded to digital systems
because you are able to search by time and date. Digital images can be viewed over LAN /
WAN and can be e-mailed anywhere in the world in the blink of an eye.Q. Do I need to purchase a Maintenance Agreement for my
security system?
A. Generally speaking, electronic security management systems are
purchased to automate a security function. Automation systems are expected by the user to
be running at peak efficiency all the time. For this reason, we recommend the investment
in a Maintenance agreement that includes regular preventive maintenance, and covers repair
and labor for electronic components that malfunction.
